History of formation of

SHRI SATTAVISH DASHA PORWAD GNATI

Formation of SHRI SATTAVISH DASHA PORWAD GNATI is not much older some hundred year ago, need to form the “GOLL” (word means group of people gathers and decide to form association where the marriage will be done among the group, apart help each other, giving moral support in any unwanted situation).

Formerly it was open for all to decide marriage where ever they want, at the time of formation of this GOLL our procedure use to stay in villages, most of people insist to arrange marriage of their daughter in City or Taluka place, but persons residing in City or Taluka were not willing to arrange marriage of their daughter to village resulting in the imbalance of system, just for the craze they married to cities and were proud for the same.

City people behaved like they have made major favour on the village people by excepting the girls as wife, resulted in the revolt from some of the self mannered people, wanted leadership to be taken by some one who can change this system, and were ready to cooperate for the same, Jotana also faced the same situation, with the force of the family members and other co fellow person, Pari Kapirchand Jetha and Shah Ghela Harkha took up the project to unite the Dasha Porwad Vanik families residing nearby Ahmedabad, traveled to those village where such families found educated them to unite.

Invitations for the primary meeting were sent to likeminded families from the nearby villages, meeting was arranged on FHAGAN SUD 3 SAMVANT 1919 (1862).

On deciding day representatives from 27 villages attended the meeting, and in the first meeting decision to form “GOLL” was taken unopposed, secondly to the proposal to restrict the wedding of daughter to other caste out side this “GOLL” differences came up, families who did not had daughter of the age of wedding or the families who did not had daughter at all had no problem to the proposal, but families with daughter of the age due to marriage had tough stand, because this may create problem for them to hunt for suitable Groom, the discussion continued for two days, to conclude amicable solution to the issue, after the through discussion it was decided to permit the so called out caste marriage for one year from the formation of the “GOLL”, and the cutoff date was fixed on FHAGAN SUD 5 SAMVANT 1920 (1863), after this amicable solution the formation of “GOLL” took place on FHAGAN SUD 5 SAMVANT 1919 (1862), thus “SHRI SATTAVISH DASHA PORWAD PANCH” was establish.

The first resolution passed was a family joining this Panch after FHAGAN SUD 5 SAMVANT 1920 (1863), should not arrange marriage of their bride out side the PANCH, and if so any one disobey shall be penalize for Rs. 5001, and be kept away (Suspend) from PANCH for 5 years.

In the meeting the name of the representative from each village with the number of family joining with their individual strength were noted, at that time Jotana panch had taken the responsibility of administration, their GOR (Official Brahmin to perform Puja, Marriage or other spiritual worship) was taken to Modipur, and was awarded the permanent GOR post.

Satisfaction for the formation of “GOLL” and decision not to take stern action till the duration of one year completes for the out caste marriage, confirming to meet after one year at Jotana at appropriate time meeting was concluded.

After the meeting of Modipur, the families willing to arrange marriage of their Brides in cities arranged the same within the period of one year, creating acute shortage of Brides, which remain for long time.

In second meeting at Jotana, representatives from the Uvarsad, claimed the share in administration as they had better number of members, the decision to divide the Panch namely Jotana Section and Uvarsad Section was taken, GOR post to Uvarsad GOR was also offered.

Distribution of the sections and power was so distributed in those time to smoothen the administration, that today we are proud of our fore fathers for their vision.

Leaders from Uvarsad Shah Motichand Laxmichand and Shah Behchar Pitamber and Leaders from Jotana Pari Kapirchand Jetha and Shah Ghela Harkha were nominated for administration of “GOLL”, Committee of 18 members four from Jotana, four from Uvarsad, five from Uvarsad section and five from Jotana section was formed.

There was no arrangement to call separate meeting of the committee, but in general meeting 18 representatives committee was reorganize, committee use to decide on the complaint, suggestion on their merit and take decision, and then put those decision for the approval of general meeting, after the approval enforcement of the decision was taken up, General meeting had never rejected or amended any decision of the committee conclusion has arrived as per record.

Formation of “GOLL” and administration for the same were settled, but the AIM of formation was not achieved for long time, had to wait for long duration.
